World Press Photo bans manipulated entries

"World Press Photo has renewed its call for entries for the prestigious photojournalism prize, and has publicly stated for the first time, that altered images will not be allowed in".

"The jury, if suspicious of an image's authenticity, could request 'the original, unretouched file as recorded by the camera or an untoned scan of the negative or slide'".

Why conceptual photography is having a prized moment

"This year's Deutsche Börse prize seems designed to blur the lines between conceptual art and contemporary photography – perfect for provoking debate and grabbing public attention.

Photography, like art, pop and literature before it, is now awash with prizes. In the last few weeks, the shortlist for the Deutsche Börse photography prize (£30,000) has been announced, as well as the winners of the Taylor Wessing prize for portraiture (£12,000) and the Prix Pictet (100,000 Swiss francs), which is dedicated to photography and sustainability. Every major photography festival now has an awards evening attached, and there's even a Google Photography prize for students, co-organised by the Saatchi Gallery"...

Just to say hello and thanks

After re-reading your reactions and viewing the latest statistics of this blog (it's still consulted frequently), I almost felt the urge to revive it. That is to say, in perhaps a slimmer form with a strong focus on the *gem* opportunities for photographers.... But then again, few of you have taking up sharing grants and awards information. See the comments and PGA, Part 2. (So, let me reflect more and see how things evolve...).
In the meantime, to all that have responded and to those that are building on this blog, thanks and 'courage' to you.
